THE HALCYON is a short acid western, written and directed by award-winning filmmaker Kaz PS with an original score by Greg Loman and Harry Waters.
“After the plague, the famines have come, and a man expelled from the last habitable zone wanders the desert wondering if he’ll ever see his son again.”
The film was conceived in motion, with the original idea being to make a simple video reel to accompany Greg and Harry’s original compositions. As Kaz and Greg began to formulate a plan for this shoot, it became clear to them that there was a powerful story in the songs and that their plan for a casual video jaunt while vacationing in Joshua Tree could be the opportunity to make something far more memorable.
What started as an impromptu art project evolved into a psychedelic contemplation of loss, hope and perseverance set against the backdrop of a post-apocalyptic wasteland.
Shot in August 2019, the film was completed with uncanny timeliness preceding the 2020 coronavirus pandemic and caught the eye of short genre platform DUST. Typically focused on sci-fi projects, the online studio decided in the wake of the global lockdown to program a pandemic-focused block of apocalypse themed short films, and invited The Halcyon to be included.
The Halcyon will premiere on DUST in May 2020.
